Advertising Madness

Turn on the TV, right now and chances are you'll see and advert with madness as the backing tune.
Are they doing a comeback tour? First Suggs was on the Birdseye advert and now it seems the jaunty two-tone stylings of Madness are on every other advert. Or maybe I exaggerate and/or have spent far too long watching daytime telly recently.

Such is the life of an artist. I wish I could be a better blogger and provide evidence like a proper journo but it's Saturday night and I'm far too distracted reading Jonny Ryan comics. Especially since I discovered this:

I know, I'm like a trillion years behind everyone else with my whole Ghost World thang, but fuck you, mainstream masses, I'm living an alternative lifestyle here

That's why Ads go to Iceland

Remeber that Planet Earth ad a few years back? How could you forget! The tune went dun-dun-dun. Yeah you all know what Hoppípolla sounds like.

Lately I've noticed that the trend has caught on. Firstly this Centerparcs ad, that is infuriatingly one flat note away from the actual song.
And now the new Ode to a Ford whatever is all epic piano.

I'm surprised Jón Birgisson hasn't sued. Then again, with Iceland's economic problems, they'll be glad of the publicity.

Ps- Has anyone noticed how EVERYONE has twitter this week? It's like the new facebook.

Everyone laugh at the poor

I've never been on a haven holiday, but from the adverts I don't think I ever want to

Butlins doesn't fare much better

Eugh. Advertisers really know how to attract clients, huh. I call these two "let's laugh at the poor". Maybe I've been at home too much this week, and my daytime TV exposure levels are too high, but these make me feel sick.

My favourite advert is the Condom: Essential Wear one. I couldn't (be arsed to) find it on youtube but you know the one I mean. The one you've never seen all the way through because you needed to take a "little break" halfway thorugh.

If I was in advertising (and mark my words one day I will be), I'd combine the forces of cheap-as-chips holiday camps and STI awareness. Come on, you all know that you're more likely to contract some sort of unpleasentness on holiday, right?

RIGHT?
